Bilingual Parent Program Therapist

Under the Supervision of the EI Lead Therapist, the Parent Program Therapist provides parent-child and mental health services to families with children from birth to three years old. This part-time position assumes responsibility for parent education, training, and support in cooperation with the multi-disciplinary team, parents and the community.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite and home-based assessments, parent trainings, individual consultations; emphasizing individual and family strengths in a positive prevention approach
  • Support therapeutic teams in providing relationship and evidence based therapies and services
  • Develop and lead workshops on a variety of parenting topics
  • Attends community meetings as a representative of Community Gatepath’s Children Services Program
  • May hold private therapy sessions for individual parents as needed

Qualifications for the Position

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required.  Must be able to delivery therapy/services in Spanish and English.
  • Experience in a early intervention program and/or community mental health setting with families of diverse populations
  • Knowledge and experience of unique needs of families of children with developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge and experience of prenatal to three social-emotional development
  • Experience in increasing awareness to the public on social-emotional issues
  • Knowledge of local mental health resources and referral agencies

Education and Work Experience

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and ability is qualifying, unless otherwise specified.  A typical way to qualify is:

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Clinical Social Worker
  • Three years clinical experience with children and families
  • Three years of early childhood and family mental health experience
  • Three years of experience as a mental health educator

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and keyboard - frequently
  • Ability to bend, squat and stoop – frequently
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. – occasionally
  • Ability to physically respond to children with special needs

Licensing Requirements

  • Valid California Driver’s License/ID
  • Proof of negative TB test results
  • Verification of good physical health by physician
  • CPR Certification/First Aide Training
  • Ability to obtain criminal fingerprint clearance
  • 18 years of age
