Preschool Program Aide

Summary:
The Preschool Program Aide is responsible for assisting and carrying out group and individual goals and objectives for children in the preschool, maintaining staff to child ratios and providing a safe, developmentally appropriate, and nurturing environment in which the children are enabled to learn and thrive.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Participate in planning and implementation of classroom activities, indoor and outdoor play, snack provision (allergy and safety awareness) including set-up/clean-up, maintenance, and safety considerations.
• Provide documentation of activities and interventions for preschool as needed
• Provide caregivers with written and oral information about developmentally appropriate activities
• Assist staff with paperwork, materials development, and curriculum planning
• Case management duties as specified by program coordinator
• Must comply with applicable policies, i.e., Community Gatepath Safety Policies, CARF accreditation standards, Community Care Licensing, CAL-OSHA, etc.
• Comply with participant rights, Community Gatepath program policies and procedures, and quality assurance standards
• Other duties assigned
Physical Activity Requirements:
• Ability to physically manage children (up to 40 lbs.) carrying, positioning- frequently
• Generally housekeeping – frequently
• Ability to sit at a desk for 1-2 hrs. – Occasionally
Education/Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and ability is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. A typical way to qualify is:
• Minimum of 6 ECE units, BA/BS preferred
• One year experience in a preschool with at-risk or developmentally delayed children as well as typically-developing children
Licensing Requirements:
• Valid California Drivers’ License.
• Physical examination and TB test clearance
• Ability to obtain criminal clearance (fingerprinting)
• Completion of all required forms by CCL
• CPR Certification
• First Aid Training
• Must be 18 years of age, a high school graduate, or be currently participating in an occupational program at high school.
• Must work only under the direct supervision of a teacher
• An aide may escort or assist children in going to the bathroom and may supervise napping children without being under the direct supervision of a teacher
Training Requirements:
• Required to complete a minimum of ten (10) hours of training or continuing education as directed and approved by the CEO and the CFO
• Behavioral management/intervention
• Seizure disorders
• Protection and advocacy
• Health maintenance – general nutrition
• Confidentiality procedures
• Abuse reporting
Qualifications for Position:
• Ability to obtain criminal clearance
• Oral and writing skills necessary for documentation and communication with staff, families and children
• Positive outlook, enthusiasm, self-motivated and high energy
• Ability to function as part of a team
