Caring Easter Bunny "Hops" Into Town
This year, the “green
grass” carpet will be rolled out for children with special needs and their families for a special Caring Easter Bunny event
at Stanford Shopping Center. On Sunday
April 17, the Caring Easter Bunny will ‘hop’ out early—before the mall
officially opens—to welcome his guests with special needs in an environment
that will be set up to support the sensory, physical and other developmental
needs.
The Caring Easter
Bunny is a joint project between Stanford Shopping Center; The Noerr Programs, the
digital imaging company who provides the Santa and Bunny photo experience for
malls nationwide; and AbilityPath.org a national online resource hub and
special needs community with created by AbilityPath.org.
Download a flyer for the event. Or RSVP online by April 15 if you plan to attend.
Gatepath Awarded Taproot Foundation Grant
Community Gatepath was awarded a Strategic Staff Development Service grant from the Taproot Foundation. The Taproot Foundation provides teams of pro bono consultants to work on critical areas of capacity building with qualified nonprofits. The selection process is rigorous with only a select number of charities receiving the grant. The goal of the grant is to address staff development needs, both for individual employees and the organization as a whole. Staff training through the grant will begin in February 2011. Partners for the program also include Bank of America, AIGA, Blue Shield of Califorinia Foundation, American Express, Capital One and Monster.
Power of Possibilities Breakfast Award Winner Makes a Big Move
Jessica Donovan, the 2010 Neal Poppin Award Winner at the Power of Possibilities Breakfast, took another big step in her life of independence. Jessica already had a great job at Walgreens and traveled on her own using public transportation. This young woman with autism was more independent than most 30-year-olds, but there was one more big step to take. Jessica has always loved cooking for her family and friends, but now she does it in her own kitchen. After living with roommates for years, Jessica moved into her own apartment. We are so proud of Jessica and encourage you to learn more about her by watching her award video.
2009 Annual Review in Pocket Size
At this year's Power of Possibilities Recognition Breakfast, attendees received a Gatepath "Pocket Points" guide. The pocket-size publication included a review of its 2009 fiscal year along with important facts and statistics related to individuals with a disability. The publication is ideal for providing valuable information both to document how Gatepath continues to serve more and serve them better, but also demonstrates the growing numbers of children and adults in our community that need services.
