Access to Independence

Access to Independence is our newest service model and an innovative community-based program that offers adults with developmental disabilities increased participation in their local neighborhoods. Access to Independence will achieve the following for our participants and community:

  • Increased participation in community work opportunities
  • Increased utilization of public and private community services and resources
  • Improved understanding of healthy living and quality of life principles
  • Increased choices to advance independence and personal learning
Gatepath Learning and Resource Campuses are located throughout San Mateo County, close to where our participants live and work.  Over 40 curriculum courses have been developed and include topics such as: employment readiness, social skills, educational enrichment, personal health, safety and community involvement. Vocational training and paid work opportunities will take place at our Learning and Employment Campus.

In addition to our Learning and Resource Campuses, participants may choose our Community Access component of Access to Independence. Services will occur completely in the community and neighborhoods of our participants and feature daily activities that focus on accessing everyday community resources such as employment, recreation, education and local business opportunities. Paid and volunteer work will be provided to develop employment readiness skills.
