With ambitious intentions, hard work and a strong community, all things are possible!

By Bryan Neider, CEO, Gatepath

As 2018 comes to a close, we have been reflecting on this past year.  We’re extremely thankful for all the support we had in furthering Gatepath’s mission.  We are grateful for the dedication and commitment of our passionate team of caregivers. There is so much we are grateful for.

We are already looking ahead to the coming year with excitement and optimism.   We have been thinking about our intentions and the goals we want to achieve as an organization.

This year, on behalf of Gatepath, I dedicate my “wish list” to those with developmental disabilities and their families. Here are my top 10 wishes (in no particular order):

  1. JOBS FOR PEOPLE OF ALL ABILITIESEvery employer embraces inclusive hiring practices.
  2. EQUAL PAYCalifornia eliminates the subminimum wage law to give everyone a chance to earn fair pay.
  3. INCLUSIVE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSINGHousing projects are designed to be inclusive and accessible for people of all abilities.
  4. INCREASED STATE FUNDINGStabilize the developmental disabilities services system to ensure the Californians we serve can live full and productive lives.
  5. STATEWIDE CHAMPIONS Community and state leaders advocate for equal rights for all and uphold the promise of the Lanterman Act.
  6. CHILD DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENINGS Every child under the age of five has access to free screenings for the early identification of developmental delays.
  7. ZERO TOLERANCE FOR BULLYING IN SCHOOLSPrograms that foster friendships and inclusive social opportunities in the community for all.
  8. ACCEPTANCE Fully embracing and accepting everyone for who they are.
  9. RESPECT Valuing and supporting the voice, dreams and contributions of every individual.
  10. INCLUSION Building a community that thrives from its inclusion of all citizens.

At Gatepath our mission is to create a world where people of all abilities are fully accepted, respected and included.  We dream of a day when inclusion is a reality for everyone.

I can’t think of anything more rewarding than making the dreams of others come true. Please join us in helping our “wish list” come true for the families and individuals we serve.
